What do you think when you look at our world today? What do believe the world will be like for our children, and our children’s children? It’s kind of daunting to think about, and even more frustrating to talk about with others. No remedy even seems possible - Right? Wrong? Indifferent? Maybe not – who the Hell knows?
“When action grows unprofitable, gather information; when information grows unprofitable, sleep…” - Ursula K Le Guin.
I think I have a pretty good day when I actually get to teach someone something that will make their life a little better. It's a pretty damn good day when I get to come home and enjoy just being alive with my family. To me, that's pretty damn profitable. I like to think that wealth is seeing that my children are ready for this life. That they are ready for the rise and the fall of our times, that they are prepared for a life that is brilliant and heinous all at once. This may not mean that they are ready for every scenario, but they are ready to problem solve any scenario. Maybe that is all we need - to pass skills and knowledge to the next generation with the confidence that they can carry on, or do better. Maybe you have changed the world already, but you can’t see it through the noise of the constantly connected, disconnected world we live in.
“The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion.” – Abraham Lincoln.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, get up, love your family and friends, do the best you can, and make change on the scale that you can make it on. That is real life, honest to god, magic, to be able to do just that. That is real world shattering change. Teach your little ninjas to be strong, self sufficient, passionate, and kind. Spread your wisdom and knowledge to anyone you can. Teach your skills to those around you, and have patience – humans are a very imperfect type of alien. If we all do that, then our future is brighter than what the computer, and television, and radio, and lips of people being moved by strings will tell you.
“Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up.” – Dean Karnazes
